Eastory Eastern Front Series on YouTube.
Eastory is an Estonian youtuber that makes videos relating to historical conflicts in the past. Many of these videos include animation that shows detailed division movements across the map of a certain country or Provence. This type of detailed battle animation shows the strategy that commanders on the front use, and he walks you through each conflict with time stamps. these types of videos cannot be found anywhere else. My project of focus is his eastern front series. The German invasion of the Soviet Union is widely considered the deadliest conflict of World War 2 and the history of humans on earth. He does four videos on the eastern front that are chronologically ordered from 1941-1945. Eastern Front animated: 1941 – Bing video. This first video shows division movements and strategy of both sides of the war. The Germans invade with success at the start, encircling many soviet armies with panzer groups. The soviet command was not ready for such an attack. At the start of the invasion, the soviets had millions of casualties. Many of which being taken prisoner while the armored formations advance eastwards, almost unopposed. The soviets were aided by German supply issues that came with invading a vast territory the size of Russia. They eventually stopped the advance at the gates of Moscow, and forced the Germans into a harsh winter retreat 40 miles back. Eastern Front animated: 1942 – Bing video. The second part of the series focuses on the stalemate that had been created along the whole front. And outlines the German plan to rush into the caucuses to take the oil fields at Grozny and Baku. This attempt originally caught the soviets off guard, but lacking the same forces as the original attack, the German 6th army became encircled at Stalingrad and destroyed. This marked the turning point in the war. Eastern Front animated: 1943/44 – Bing video. The third installment focused on the large-scale soviet counter attacks which could not be contained by the Germans. The German plan was now to create a stalemate on the front. The overwhelming manpower and equipment were too much for the Germans in some sectors, and in some they stood fast by throwing back the soviets with counter attacks by armored forces. Eastern Front animated: 1944/1945 – Bing video. The final video shows the final 2 years of the war. The soviets push into berlin with massive force and destroy the rest of the German army. The level of detail in these videos is unprecedented. These animations cannot be seen anywhere else. There are even timestamps to see when all of it is happening week by week. What is not shown is how he makes these animations or the software he uses. And as of today, his name is not known. Overall, from a historical standpoint, this project does an incredible Job with narration and visuals.
